The Palo Alto boys' soccer team not only lost its first match of the season, but a 2-0 setback to host Los Gatos on Wednesday also knocked the Vikings out of first place in the SCVAL De Anza Division race. Palo Alto (2-1, 7-1-4) will play host to Santa Clara on Friday (3:30 p.m.) at the Mayfield Soccer Complex with hopes of perhaps earning a share of first before taking a break for the holidays. The win for Los Gatos (2-0 league) moved the Wildcats into first place. Los Gatos put the game away in the final minute as Paly pushed players forward in an attempt to get the equalizer in the closing minutes. Paly goalie Peter Johnson and outside backs John Christopherson and Bubba Paguirigan along with sweeper Ryan Holland had solid games stopping Los Gatos most of the afternoon.
