The Redwood City American Legion Post 105 Blues took a 4-2 victory over the Merced Volunteers on the final day of the annual Burlingame Fourth of July Tournament that concluded Monday at Washington Park.

Tommy Flippin threw a complete game three-hitter with just 75 pitches despite four Redwood City errors. Flippin walked none. He threw three pitches or less to all but four batters and threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of 29 batters. The two runs by Merced in the fourth inning were unearned. Flippin, 15, will be a sophomore at Menlo School.

Daniel Engels scored three runs for Redwood City (11-8). Menlo School's Freddy Avis drove Engels home with a single in the sixth. Avis scored the final run on a sacrifice fly by Zack Buono (Sacred Heart Prep).

Redwood City opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over the eventual champion San Mateo White Sox before dropping games to El Dorado Legion, 12-11, and Palo Alto Post 375, 10-8. Burlingame beat Redwood City, 5-3, on 4th of July.
