Faced with elimination, No.2 Old Pro responded with an explosion of offense to defeat No. 4 Bike Connection 19-2, forcing a winner-take-all rematch for the Palo Alto Little League City Tournament championship Sunday at 4:30.
On Saturday, Old Pro scored 11 times in the first inning and added five more in the second, leading to the imposition of the mercy rule after four innings.
Jai Correa led the offensive onslaught with three RBI, while Owen Plambeck, Jonathan Davis and Ole Erickson each drove in two runs.
Correa capped off the prolific first inning, in which Old Pro sent 14 batters to the plate, with a two-run blast over the center field fence. Justin Hall added a solo home run in third.
Old Pro also received solid pitching from Hall, Zeke Coxe and Tench Coxe who combined to surrender just four hits. Manager Kevin Cool kept all three pitchers under 20 pitches, leaving them all available to pitch in the rematch Sunday.
Bike Connection got its two runs in the first inning when Andrew Schloss connected for a two-run homer.
