Menlo School's Justin Chan and Andrew Carlisle will have to work a little harder to defend their Central Coast Section doubles championship after the second round of the CCS Individual Tournament was rained out Tuesday at Imperial Courts in Aptos. The top-seeded duo of Chan and Carlisle made it past the opening round with a 6-1, 6-0 victory but rain postponed the quarterfinals until Thursday at 10 a.m. That means the Menlo tandem must win three matches that day to successfully defend.

Chan and Carlisle won't have a chance to face teammates Kyle Sum and Daniel Morkovine, who were defeated by Palo Alto's Drew Pearson and Peter Tseng, 6-2, 6-2. Sum and Morkovine were the No. 3 seeds. Pearson and Tseng will face Burlingame's Erik Chaney and Palmer Mendelson in the quarterfinals while Chan and Carlisle will take on brothers Ben and Mason Vierra of R.L. Stevenson.

Thursday's semifinals are scheduled for around 1:30 p.m., with the title matches in single and doubles to follow -- weather permitting.
