Haley, Herekar, Mitchell all advance, CCS singles tournament
Date of competition: Tuesday, May 25, 2010
Menlo-Atherton's Alec Haley and Alden Mitchell will join Gunn's Rajeev Herekar in Thursday's second round of the singles competition at the Central Coast Section Individual Tournament at Imperial Courts in Aptos following Tuesday's rain-delayed opening round.
The quarterfinal round was rained out, and will be restarted on Thursday at 10 a.m. Those matches will be followed by the semifinals and finals.
No more than two of the three local seniors, however, will have a shot at reaching the semifinals. Herekar, the No. 2 seed, will take on Mitchell, who played No. 2 singles for the Bears this season. The winner of that match could face Haley in the semifinals.
Herekar advanced with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win over Jordan Keplar of Aptos; Mitchell moved on with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Faran Casad of Salinas and Haley, the No. 3 seed, eliminated friend and local rival Patrick Chase of Menlo, 6-4, 6-4.
