Getting a solid sprint double from Daniel Jones and four victories in the field events, the Palo Alto boys’ track and field team pulled away from visiting Los Gatos for a 77-48 dual-meet victory on Thursday. The Vikings (3-1) used their depth to make up for the absence of senior distance standout Philip MacQuitty, who was held out of the meet so he could concentrate on Saturday’s Arcadia Invitational, where he’ll be running on the team’s four-mile relay on Friday with Josh Newby, Peter Wilson and Ben Sklaroff and in the invitational mile on Saturday. None of those runners competed Thursday.

Even without those four, Paly still had more than enough to keep in the running for the division championship. Jones won the 100 in a good 11.12 and took the 200 in 22.71 as Paly swept both events. Miles Anderson and Tremaine Kirkman were second and third in both events.

Palo Alto also went one-two in the 110 high hurdles and high jump in addition to sweeping the 300 intermediate hurdles and shot put. The Vikings outscored Los Gatos in those six events, 52-0, enough to win the meet.
