First-place Saratoga was missing three key players but still had enough depth to defeat host Palo Alto, 5-2, in a SCVAL De Anza Division boys' tennis showdown on Tuesday. The Falcons (9-0, 16-1) played without No. 1 John Lamble plus two other starters, but breezed in two singles matches and swept the doubles despite two matches went to a third set.

"They are on another planet," Paly coach Andy Harader said of the Falcons, who now lead the second-place Vikings (6-3, 11-4) by three games -- virtually wrapping up the league's dual-match title. Palo Alto got a victory from Nicky Hu at No. 1 singles and another from Peter Tseng at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
