Varsity Boys Soccer
Menlo 5, Eastside Prep 3
Date of competition: Wednesday, February 17, 2010
Menlo battled back from a 2-0 halftime deficit with five goals in the second half to register a 5-3 victory over visiting Eastside Prep in a West Bay Athletic League boys' soccer playoff on Wednesday. The match was a semifinal, thus advancing the Knights (11-7-2) to the finals against Harker on Friday. Harker defeated Priory, 2-1 in overtime, in the other semifinal. Friday's winner will get an automatic berth into the Central Coast Section playoffs. Menlo got goals from Kyan Karle, Jonathan Melgar, Jackson Badger, Lucas Keyt and Dawson Williams in the second-half explosion. Priory (8-7-2) is still eligible for the CCS playoffs, but will have to get in as an at-large choice. The CCS seeding meeting will be Saturday. Regular-season WBAL champ Sacred Heart Prep already has earned a CCS berth.
