The Menlo boys’ soccer team remained in third place in the West Bay Athletic League with a 2-1 victory over visiting King’s Academy on Wednesday. The Knights improved to 4-3-1 in league for 13 points (6-6-1 overall) but still trail first-place Sacred Heart Prep (27 points) and second place Priory (18 points).
The King's Academy opened the scoring in the 26th minute and held that lead going into the half. But, the second half was not as kind to the visitors as Menlo scored on a bit of clever play down the right flank that involved Dawson Williams and Sanjay Padval. They worked a quick combination play that set up Vikram Padval's lethal strike on goal just one minute into the second half.
Padval struck again in the 57th minute with a ball neatly tucked away at the far post as he was sprung on goal with a double assist by Alex Chang and brother Sanjay Padval. New keeper Chris Akin stopped several King's attempts and was strong in distribution. Another key to the defense was the play of Jackson Badger and Coby Joseph, who constantly won their one-on-one battles and Sam Parker, who made several long attacking runs to open the Knights’ attack.
