Menlo School defeated Mercy Burlingame, 2-0, on Thursday in a West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) girls' soccer match. The Knights (1-0-1, 7-1-2) jumped in front in the first minute on a 22-yard shot by senior Sarah Swig off an assist from freshman Dana Gornick. Senior Mila Sheeline pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 15th with a 12-yard volley off a pass from Swig.
Menlo created scoring opportunities throughout the game, including four shots hitting the crossbar, but did not score again despite out-shooting Mercy, 16-1.Menlo returns to action Tuesday (3 p.m.) at first-place Sacred Heart Prep.
