Senior Lizzy Weisman scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Sacred Heart Prep girls’ soccer team to a big 5-2 victory over visiting Priory in a key West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) match on Thursday. The victory solidified the Gators’ hold on first place at 2-0 (8-3-1 overall) while the Panthers fell to 0-1-1 in league (2-5-5 overall). Sacred Heart beat Priory twice last season on its way to winning the league title.
Weisman scored the first two goals off assists by Sophie Abuel-Saud and Kendal Jager in the seventh and eight minutes. Nicole Quiliam scored the eventual winning goal just a minute later off another Jager assist. Priory rallied with unassisted goals by Darrah Shields in the 29th minute and junior Massiel Castellanos in the 60th minute to make it a 3-2 match, but Geena Graumann (just off the injured list) took a corner kick from Weisman and found the back of the net in the 67th minute. Weisman closed out Priory with a penalty kick just three minutes later. Sacred Heart Prep will play host to Menlo on Tuesday (3 p.m.) in yet another showdown in the highly competitive WBAL.
