It was perhaps fitting that a showdown between two of the top girls’ soccer teams in the West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) wind up the way it did as visiting Priory and host Menlo School finished their league opener in a scoreless draw on Tuesday. The match featured last season’s No. 2 (Priory) and 3 teams in the Foothill Division. Though it was a draw, each team had scoring opportunities. Menlo’s Mila Sheeline fired a 22-yad shot midway through the first half that hit the crossbar and Menlo's Katie Baum had a shot that sailed just wide from 12 yards out midway through the second half. Menlo's defense was led by the effort of backs like senior Elitah Petty, freshman Dana Gornick, sophomore Frannie McCarthy, sophomore Elle Laub and freshman keeper Julia Dressel. The Knights (0-0-1, 6-1-2) outshot the Panthers (0-0-1, 2-4-5) by 12-8.
