The girls' soccer team from Priory had to settle for a second-straight 1-1 deadlock, this time with Woodside in the second round of the Burlingame Invitational on Monday night. The Panthers (2-1-4) opened the round-robin tourney with a 1-1 tie with Leland on Saturday.

"The coaching staff was very pleased with our 1-1 performance with Woodside High School last night," said Priory coach Armando del Rio. "We improved on our defensive problems from Saturday, and showed our collective unity and winning mentality in defense and in attack. It was a very tense game, but an exciting game, with good opportunities from both sides."

Priory got its goal midway through the second half when Massiel Castellanos took a few players on (drawing defenders out of position) and slipped a pass to Darrah Shields, who placed the ball low and into the far post corner.

The Panthers continue to play without key offensive players Adriana Cortes and Mariana Galvan plus Alex Schnabel. Cortes won't return from an ankle injury until January, when del Rio hopes to get Schnabel back from an MCL injury. Galvan, however, will be out for the season following an ACL tear that occurred at the U.S. National 15-Under training camp in Florida just a few weeks ago.
