Stanford 3, Arizona 1
Date of competition: Saturday, November 17, 2007
The Stanford women's volleyball team has clinched a share of its unprecedented 11th Pac-10 Conference title, . The Cardinal, however, is in no mood to share. Stanford (15-2, 26-2) can win the title outright on Friday night by beating visiting Cal (7 p.m.) in its final regular season match. Junior middle blocker Foluke Akinradewo matched a season-high with 21 kills while hitting a season-best .769, and Stanford topped Arizona, 30-23, 28-30, 30-20, 30-28. Akinradewo added six blocks to her night's work. Freshman Alix Klineman chipped in 14 kills, while junior opposite Erin Waller hit .474 and added 12 kills. Freshman Gabi Ailes tallied 16 digs, and senior Bryn Kehoe recorded her 14th double-double with 60 assists and 11 digs. The reason Stanford clinched at least a tie for the Pac-10 title was that USC upset Washington, 25-30, 29-31, 32-30, 30-27, 18-16, on Friday night, giving the Huskies their third conference loss. Washington is 13-3 (24-3) while USC is 12-4 (23-4) each with two matches left. "It's nice that we only have to focus on one team this week," Akinradewo said after the Arizona match. "I'm sure we'll still work on the little things this week in practice."
