Varsity Boys Soccer
Sacred Heart Prep 6, Pinewood 0
Date of competition: Friday, December 11, 2009
The Sacred Heart Prep boys’ soccer team picked a good time to break out of its scoring doldrums with a 6-0 victory over visiting Pinewood in West Bay Athletic League season opener on a dreary, drizzly Friday afternoon in Atherton. The Gators (1-0, 3-3) grabbed a 1-0 first-half lead on a goal by Marcelino Perez at the 29th minute. That proved to be the winning goal. In the second half, Victor Ojeda made it 2-0 at 32:58 and Jack Odell, another football player, scored with 23:10 left. Reid Gaa scored quickly thereafter off an assist from Ojeda followed by a goal from Matt Walter at the 12:57 mark. Walter led the SHP football team in rushing this season. Max Polkinhorne, who doubles as a keeper, wrapped up the scoring in the final two minutes.
