Varsity Girls Soccer
Menlo 5, Santa Clara 0
Date of competition: Thursday, December 10, 2009
The Menlo School girls’ soccer team recorded its fifth straight victory to open the season as the host Knights handed winless Santa Clara a 5-0 nonleague defeat. Menlo senior Nicole Fasola scored what would be the winning goal in the 20th minute as her shot bounced off a Santa Clara defender and into the net for a 1-0 first-half lead. Menlo came out quickly in the second half as Sophie Sheeline volleyed in a cross from fellow sophomore Shannon Lacy in the first minute.
Just a minute later, Fasola knocked in her second goal on an assist from senior Mila Sheeline. Fasola completed her hat trick on an assist from freshman Maya Norman in the 12th minute. Junior Kelly Cavan connected from 25 yards out off a Fasola assist in the 23rd minute to cap the four-goal scoring in the second half. Menlo will play host to Gunn on Saturday at noon in a nonleague match.
