Varsity Girls Water Polo
Menlo-Atherton 10, Leland 5
Date of competition: Saturday, November 17, 2007
The third-seeded Menlo-Atherton girls' water polo captured its first-ever Central Coast Section title with a 10-5 win over No. 5 Leland in the CCS Division I title match Saturday at Independence High in San Jose. The Bears (21-8) scored their first five goals in 6-on-5 situations after getting three quick fouls on Leland's top player, who was majored (ejected) in the first quarter. Sophomore Rebecca Dorst led M-A with four goals and sophomore Vanessa Lane added three as the Bears raced to a 7-2 halftime lead and were never threatened. Morgan Leech added a pair of goals for the Bears, who will return five field starters and their starting goalie next season.
