Varsity Boys Soccer
St. Francis 0, Palo Alto 0
Date of competition: Wednesday, December 2, 2009
Palo Alto opened its boys' soccer season with a tough 0-0 draw with host St. Francis on Wednesday.
"I was pleased with our effort as we have a new keeper (Scott Alexander) for the first time after having Peter Johnson for 3-4 years," said Paly coach Don Briggs. "We also had just one returning back (Mark Raftry). So, to come out with a shutout was quite an accomplishment. We moved the ball well for most of the game in an evenly played contest. Both teams had a couple of chances with each team having shots deflect off the post."
Paly's Spencer Sims had a couple of nice efforts just over the cross bar and in the last two minutes had a near goal on a one on one breakaway with the keeper that was barely deflected away.
"It was a nice team effort against a good opponent," said Briggs.
