The third-ranked Stanford men's swimming team took an early lead after the first day of competition on Thursday at the UC Irvine Nike Cup at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool. Stanford amassed 597 points to Brigham Young's 269 and Air Force's 212. The Stanford team of Austin Staab, Jason Dunford, David Dunford and Jake Allen took the first win of the night in the 200 free relay with a meet record time of 1:19.71. Senior Daniel Beal won the 500 free in 4:21.41. Stanford swept the top spots as Beal was followed by teammates David Mosko (4:23.25) and Phillip Morrison (4:27.96) in second and third place. Junior Nate Cass won the 200 IM in a time of 1:47.47. Stanford also swept the 50 free, led by Austin Staab (19.86), and followed by junior Jason Dunford (19.89) and sophomore David Dunford (20.44). Stanford's 400 medley relay team of Eugene Godsoe, Cass, Staab and Jason Dunford won in a meet record 3:13.15.
