The Menlo school girls' soccer team opened its season with a big 5-1 triumph over visiting Menlo-Atherton as senior Katie Baum and senior Nicole Fasola each scored two goals. Baum took an assist from Fasola midway through the first half and scored from close range. The Bears answered on a goal from Jennifer Kirst, but Menlo bounced back minutes later with sophomore Sophie Sheeline scoring off an assist from Sarah Swig.
Just before the half ended, Baum scored her second goal off another assist from Swig as the Knights took a 3-1 lead into the half. The second half opened with Fasola taking a cross from junior Kelly Cavan and finding the net for a 4-1 lead. Fasola made it 5-1 following another cross from Sheeline to close things out.
