Sacred Heart Prep's handiwork on both sides of the ball delivered the Gators a 45-14 Central Coast Section Division IV football playoff victory over visiting San Lorenzo Valley on Saturday.

Third-seeded Sacred Heart Prep (8-3) will meet No. 2 seed Menlo (8-3), which dispatched dispatched No. 7 Greenfield, 42-27, in the CCS semifinals next weekend. It will be the second time the two teams have met in the CCS playoffs. Last season, Prep beat Menlo in the first round of the playoffs before eventually proceeding to the finals where it lost to Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Sacred Heart Prep set the tone with its defense and put the finishing touches on San Lorenzo Valley with its offense. Chris Gaertner had a big hand in both efforts. Gaertner rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns in 15 carries, caught four passes for 80 yards and had an interception for Prep. Matt Thomas also had an interception for Prep.

Sacred Heart Prep held No. 6 San Lorenzo Valley (4-4-3) without a first down until there were six minutes remaining in the first half. The Cougars ran just 45 plays to Prep's 68.

Matt Walter led all rushers with 156 yards and three touchdowns while the Gators rolled up 494 yards of offense. Quarterback John Geary had his most effective game of the season, completing eight of 10 passes for a season-high 150 yards and a touchdown. SHP scored on seven of its first eight possessions and twice took a knee on the 1 with two minutes remaining in the game on its ninth possession. The Gators' lone stall came on a fumble on its second possession.
