Menlo School won its first-ever Central Coast Section football playoff game on Saturday with a 42-27 win over visiting Greenfield. Menlo (8-3), the second seed in the playoffs, dispatched No. 7 Greenfield, 42-27, while Sacred Heart Prep made short work of San Lorenzo Valley, 45-14, in the Division IV playoffs.

Menlo and Sacred Heart Prep will meet in the semifinals next week. It will be the second time the two teams have met in the CCS playoffs. Last season, Prep beat Menlo in the first round of the playoffs before eventually proceeding to the finals where it lost to Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Danny Diekroeger threw for five touchdowns and ran for another in leading Menlo to its initial CCS triumph. Diekroeger completed 16 of 23 passes for 352 yards and threw two touchdown passes to Clay Robbins and Nick Murayama and another one to Tim Benton. Menlo raced to a 28-7 lead early in the second quarter and coasted to its victory.

Beau Nichols had six catches for 147 yards, including a long catch-run of 66 yards, and Robbins had five catches for 83 yards as primary targets for Diekroeger.

Since moving to the CCS, Menlo had reached the playoffs six times since 1997. This seventh try has the Knights in the semifinals. Menlo last won a postseason game in 1990 when in competed in the North Coast Section.
