Gunn senior Paul Summers ran the fastest time of his life and the fastest time of any race during the day to win the Central Coast Section boys' Division II individual title and help his team finish second and earn a berth in the CIF State Meet.

Summers clocked a winning time of 14:41 over the 2.95-mile course at Crystal Springs in Belmont on Saturday morning to beat defending champion Garrett Rowe of Mountain View by 11 seconds. Rowe did help the Spartans win the team crown with 29 points while Gunn was second with 89 and Palo Alto third with 116. All three teams qualified for the state finals. Paly senior Philip MacQuitty was fourth in a season-best 15:03 to pace the Vikings.
