The Menlo-Atherton boys' water polo team cleared a big hurdle in the Central Coast Section Division I tournament with an 11-10 overtime win over Los Altos on Saturday at Lynbrook High. The Bears (19-9) overcame a 3-1 first-quarter deficit, scoring four goals in the fourth period to send the match to a pair of extra periods. M-A senior Matt Bogott scored seven goals and Simon Hood added two as the Bears advanced to the semifinals on Tuesday against No. 1 seed Salinas at Bellarmine Prep. M-A earned that showdown when Hood scored to tie the match at 10. With seven seconds left in the second OT, Bogott got free for a shot but the Los Altos goalie came up with the save. Just when it looked like the game was going into sudden death, the ball fell to the water and M-A's Kevin Lane picked it up and scored the final goal.
