With Josh Jackson scoring on runs of 53 and 83 yards, Gunn took over sole possession of first place in the SCVAL El Camino Division football race with a resounding 42-2 thumping of host Fremont on Friday, thus ruining the Firebirds' homecoming. The Titans improved to 3-0 in league (5-2 overall) while dropping Fremont to 3-1 (4-3.).
Jackson finished with 202 yards rushing on 12 carries. Teammate Maceo Parks returned a kickoff 85 yards for another score and added a 59-yard punt return for a TD.

Gunn had not beaten Fremont since a 20-8 win in 2000 and had lost four times in a row, including a disappointing 29-20 loss last season at Fremont that saw the Firebirds score two touchdowns in the final minutes to come from behind to win the game. Friday's win, however, made up for that and put Gunn in position to win the league crown with winnable games remaining against Los Altos, Santa Clara and Cupertino.
