The Palo Alto Vikings had their swag on full throttle this evening as they conquered No. 1-ranked Milpitas, 31-28, in a SCVAL De Anza Division showdown. Going into the game, Milpitas was ranked No. 1 in CCS and ranked in the top 50 for California -- higher than even Archbishop Mitty, which beat Paly, 35-13, earlier in the year.

This game was about as even-sided as a high school game could get. With less than two minutes to play and the game tied 28-28, Paly's fill-in kicker Joc Pederson (for injured kicker Christoph Bono) kicked the go-ahead field goal from 27 yards out. Milpitas then worked its way to the red zone with four seconds left to play. The Trojans set up for a field goal to tie the game and force overtime, but instead went for a pass play from the fake field goal set up, which fell incomplete in the end zone.

This win is a big turnaround from last week's tie to Homestead. This league win puts Paly up 5-1-1 overall, and 2-0-1 in league. Despite the big win, the Vikings will not be able to let their guard down, as they host Los Gatos next week, who is just as talented as Milpitas. Los Gatos manhandled Saratoga on Friday, 47-0.
