Varsity Boys Water Polo
Menlo 19, Sequoia 7
Date of competition: Wednesday, October 21, 2009
The Menlo boys' water polo team wrapped up its 14th consecutive PAL Bay Division championship with a 19-7 drubbing of host Sequoia on Wednesday. The Knights improved to 9-0 in league (15-4 overall) with only one league match remaining, against Burlingame.
Menlo raced to an 11-2 halftime lead while securing its 16th league crown in the past 17 years and the 17th in the past 20 seasons. Chris Akin and Jack Finch both tossed in four goals while goalies Keegan Williams, Connor Dillon and Jacob Dorn combined to stop 12 shots.
Next up for Menlo will be a much-stiffer test when the Knights take on undefeated Cathedral Catholic in the opening round of the North-South Challenge on Friday at Sacred Heart Prep at 12:45 p.m. Cathedral Catholic already has won two tournaments this season but comes in seeded only No. 4 in a highly competitive tournament.
