In a battle between the defending Central Coast Section Division I and II champions, D-2 Sacred Heart Prep upended D-1 St. Francis, 10-8, and grabbed control of the West Catholic Athletic League boys' water polo race on Thursday afternoon in Mountain View.
The Gatos (4-0, 10-3) got a sensationall performance from senior goalie Ben Dearborn, who had 15 saves. Junior Philip Bamberg tossed in five goals and seniors Dave Culpan joined with Conner Still for two each to lead SHP to its big victory. Many of the players on both teams were teammates on the Stanford Water Polo Club 18-under and 16-under teams that competed in the National Junior Olympics during the summer.
