Varsity Boys Football
Palo Alto 27, Gunn 7
Date of competition: Friday, October 9, 2009
After a lot of pre-game trash-talking by Gunn players and students, the Titans could not backup their words, as they were once again rolled over by cross-town rival Palo Alto. Gunn, however, has one big thing to celebrate despite the loss: they scored their first touchdown against Paly in 3 years, as the last two years in a row have been massive shutout victories for Paly. Gunn was fortunate to score their touchdown with one minute remaining in the game. Meanwhile for Paly, senior wide receiver Joc Pederson scored two of the touchdowns for Paly, while junior wide receiver Maurice Williams scored the other two. One item of concern for Paly is that junior starting quarterback Christoph Bono left the game early with what appears to be a broken collarbone. If this is the case, the Vikings will likely not see Bono again until next season. This mid-game loss caused junior T.J. Braff to take over at QB, and Joc Pederson taking over as kicker. Paly improves to 4-1 overall, while Gunn drops to 3-2. As of Tuesday's rankings, Paly is currently ranked 8th in CCS, with Gunn ranked 51st. The Vikings will return to league play next week as they visit Homestead.
