The Menlo-Atherton boys’ water polo team improved to 5-1 in PAL Bay Division play (11-4 overall) with a resounding 17-2 victory over visiting Woodside on Wednesday.

Playing without standout hole forward Jed Springer and junior utility Graham McClelland, the Bears still dominated the pool. Captain Eric Wright scored once in each of the first three periods and twice in the fourth to lead all scorers. Zander Rohn added four goals as six different Bears found the net.

The score might have been even more lopsided if Woodside goalie Ryan Dunlap had not made numerous outstanding saves. Andy Bligh and Jake Anthony scored lone goals for the Wildcats.

M-A travels to Burlingame on Monday and then to Menlo School next Wednesday for the third matchup between the arch rivals. The Bears and Knights have split their first two meetings this season, even though Menlo's victory came in league play and leaves the Knights atop the division standings.
