Rushing for 255 yards and not making the kinds of mistakes that nearly proved costly a week earlier, the Gunn football team opened its SCVAL El Camino Division season with a 41-7 rout of visiting Lynbrook on Friday night.

The victory was Gunn's second in a row, the first time that has happened since 2002. The Titans (1-0, 3-1) will face another team of Vikings next Friday when rival Palo Alto comes visiting for a nonleague game at 7:30 p.m.

Gunn already has surpassed last season's two-victory season and did it in impressive style against winless Lynbrook (0-1, 0-4). The Titans' 255 rushing yards was a season high. Maceo Parks led the way with 89 yards on nine carries with Casey Jackson a step behind with 87 yards on four hauls.

Parks gave Gunn all the points it needed in the first quarter on a 14-yard touchdown run and a 37-yard punt return for a score. Jon Zeglin fell on a blocked put in the end zone as Gunn grabbed a 20-0 first-quarter lead. A week ago, two special teams mistakes nearly cost Gunn during a 25-20 nonleague win over Hillsdale. On Friday, two key plays by the same group of players helped turn things around.
