Varsity Girls Tennis
Los Altos 4, Palo Alto 3
Date of competition: Tuesday, September 22, 2009
The Palo Alto girls' tennis season is quickly unraveling following a 4-3 upset loss to host Los Altos on Tuesday. The Vikings (1-2) now have dropped two straight SCVAL De Anza Division matches and have fallen to 5-4 overall heading into key matches against host St. Francis (Wednesday) and at Monta Vista (Thursday), and facing a losing record by the end of the week.
Palo Alto had its best lineup available with the return of junior Janet Liu at No. 1 singles. As expected, she posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory. Junior Emma Marti returned to her usual spot at No. 2 singles and registered a 6-1, 6-2 triumph. Paly, however, lost the next two singles in addition to losing at No. 2 and 3 doubles. The deciding match came at No. 2 doubles where Paly's tandem of Margo Gerould and Emily Efland dropped a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) decision.
