The high school cross-country season is under way and members of the Palo Alto and Gunn teams appear in good shape for the long run following Thursday’s annual Gunn Alumni Meet at the 2.18-mile Bol Park course.

In the boys’ junior/senior race, Palo Alto’s Philip MacQuitty and Gunn’s Paul Summers both broke the previous course record while finishing one-two. MacQuitty established the new course mark with his fast 10:24 winning time while Summers ran 10:31 for the No. 2 all-time mark. Both seniors passed the two-mile mark in 9:30 and 9:35, respectively, on their way to eclipsing the previous course record held by Ben Sitler of St. Francis. Robert Chen of Gunn was third in 11:03, Alex Johann of Gunn was fourth in 11:06 and Peter Wilson of Palo Alto finished fifth in 11:08.
