Sacred Heart Prep has started the 2009 football season much in the same fashion as in 2008, which is a good thing considering the Gators went 11-1-1 last year and reached the Central Coast Section playoffs for the first time. On Saturday, SHP picked up where it left off with a 34-0 thumping of visiting Mt. Eden (Hayward).

Sacred Heart Prep rushed for 389 yards in the season opener. Chris Gaertner ran for 123 yards and a TD on 12 carries, Matt Walter rushed 12 times for 113 yards and Victor Ojeda added 101 yards on nine carries with a nice 34-yard TD run to help spark the Gators.

Mt. Eden hurt itself with three turnovers and 14 penalties for 110 yards.
