After rolling through its first three opponents in impressive fashion, the NorCal 18s girls' water polo team came out flat and dropped a 5-3 decision to CHAWP White on Friday in the S&R Junior Olympics at Palo Alto High. NorCal, a mixture of current and former players from Menlo-Atherton, Sacred Heart Prep, Menlo and St. Francis, came into the match following a 9-4 victory over Raider on Friday morning.
NorCal fell behind quickly (2-0) and trailed at the half, 4-2. Sacred Heart Prep grad Stephanie Clements took over in goal in the second two periods and limited CHAWP White to just one goal in the third period. Her teammates, however, couldn't find the net either while missing on two power plays and contributing to the loss with ineffective passing. Becca Dorst scored twice and Heather Smith once for NorCal, which needs to remain undefeated until at least Sunday's semifinals to have a shot at a medal.
