For the second straight year, the Palo Alto Babe Ruth 15-year-old all stars are headed to the Pacific Southwest Regional tournament.

Palo Alto sealed its berth with a 6-4 win over Rohnert Park to win the Northern California state tournament Thursday night at Regoli Field in Antioch.

Just as last year, Palo Alto will play in the regional tournament, held this year in Ukiah, beginning August 6.

Palo Alto earned its state title with another solid pitching performance, this time from starter Tucker Jorgensen. Jorgensen pitched his maximum six innings, allowing no earned runs.

Rohnert Park got all four of its runs in the bottom of the fifth, when with two outs, a misplayed ground ball extending Rohnert Park's inning. Rohnert Park took advantage of its second life, scoring four times in an inning Jorgensen should have been out of with only seven pitches.

Luckily for Palo Alto, the offense came through, giving Jorgensen enough support to get the victory. Palo Alto scored the first two runs of the game on sacrifice flies by Kyle Zirbes and Matthew Eastman.

Palo Alto then added two more runs in the fourth. Jorgensen helped his own cause, launching a two-run home run that scored B.J. Boyd and himself. In the fifth, Palo Alto scored two more to extend its lead to 6-0.

The comfort of that 6-0 lead disappeared with Rohnert Park's big bottom half of the fifth. However, Palo Alto was unfazed and shut down Rohnert Park in the sixth and seventh. Andrew Klingelhofer came in for Jorgensen in the seventh and shut down Rohnert Park 1,2,3 to get the save.

Dyland Cook also had a big game for Palo Alto offensively, getting three hits in the game.
