It did not take a lot of offense to get the Palo Alto Babe Ruth 15-year-old all stars into the Northern California state championship game.
Despite only four hits, Palo Alto defeated Woodland 4-2 Tuesday night at Regoli Field in Antioch.
After winnings its first three games of the state tournament, Palo Alto is on to the championship game. Palo Alto will play the winner of Rohnert Park and Woodland on Thursday at 5:30. Palo Alto would have to lose twice to be denied a state championship.
Palo Alto got great pitching on Tuesday, not allowing a single earned run to Woodland. Drake Swezey started for Palo Alto and pitched six innings, allowing two unearned runs. Tucker Jorgensen came in for the seventh and struck out the side to close out the game.
Offensively, Same Falkenhagen had half of Palo Alto's hits as a team, getting two base hits. Falkenhagen also drove in two runs. Travis McHugh also had an RBI. Palo Alto created its fourth run, when Woodland threw the ball away, allowing Jordan Piha to score.
