The Palo Alto Babe Ruth 15-year-old all stars had no trouble shifting into a higher gear for the Northern California state tournament, routing Castro Valley 10-0 in their opening game of the tournament Saturday afternoon at Regoli Field in Antioch.

Facing the winner of District 5, Palo Alto enforced the ten-run rule after five innnings to seal the victory.

Palo Alto got a plethora of offense, getting contribution from across the lineup. Leadoff hitter BJ Boyd went 2-for-2 in the game with a walk, and Travis McHugh hit 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Drake Swezey joined Boyd and McHugh with a multi-hit game, hitting two singles and bringing in two runs. Jordan Piha also joined in on the offensive success, getting two RBI.

Palo Alto's dominance on Saturday was equally present on the mound as at the plate. Tucker Jorgensen started for Palo Alto, throwing four scoreless innings. Graham Marchant relieved Jorgensen and kept the shutout alive to end the game early.
