Lauren Lappin didn't exactly make a lot of noise with her bat a week ago while batting just .182 at the Canada Cup. The Stanford graduate, however, made up for that Monday night by launching a solo home run to spark the USA Softball Women's National Team to a 3-1 victory over Australia in the championship game of the KFC World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City.
Lappin, a 2008 Olympian and an alternate in 2004 before her junior year at Stanford, got her first homer of the season in the third to give the Americans a 1-0 lead. That led to a three-run inning and enough offense to give Team USA the victory in front of 4,737 fans at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex. More than 20,000 fans attended the five-day event.
