The U.S. women's water polo team battled back from an early deficit and pulled away quickly while dominating Kazakhstan, 19-6, in the opening round of the FINA World Championships on Saturday in Rome, Italy.
Kazakhstan grabbed an early 3-0 advantage before Team USA asserted itself while advancing to the second round of pool play. U.S. captain Brenda Villa scored two goals while fellow Stanford grad Alison Gregorka added one, as did Cardinal senior Jessica Steffens.
