It was a bad start, but good finish for the Palo Alto Oaks as they split their Western Baseball Association (Stan Musial Division) doubleheader with Fontanetti's on Sunday at Baylands Athletic Center. Both games were very close, with the Oaks winning the nightcap, 3-2.

In the second game, the Oaks jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Evan Warner walked and Kevin Becker followed with a single. Two errors by the A's plated Warner and Becker. The A's responded by scoring a run in the bottom of the first when leadoff hitter Chase Glaum singled and was sacrificed to second base. Jonathan Lewis then knocked in Glaum with a base hit.

That was it for the scoring until two out in the bottom of the seventh (and final) inning. After a ground out, Lewis singled and then stole second. A tough ground out moved him to third with two outs. After getting a strike, a high fastball got away from Tyler Finley and that allowed Lewis to score the tying run.

Palo Alto manager Steve Espinoza brought in Justin Freitas to pitch the eighth and, after a scoreless inning, the game moved into the ninth. That's when the Oaks' Brewer led off the inning with a home run that turned out to be the game-winner. Freitas shut down the A's in the bottom of the ninth as the Oaks improved to 13-3 overall.
The Oaks will play the A's again Saturday at Ohlone College in Fremont before taking on the Menlo Park Legends on Sunday at Baylands starting at 11:30 a.m.
