Palo Alto 12, Bel-Mateo 1
Date of competition: Thursday, July 9, 2009
The Babe Ruth 14-year-old all-stars became the third team from Palo Alto to reach the District 6 championship as Palo Alto knocked off Bel-Mateo 12-1 Thursday night at McKelvey Park in Mountain View.
The 14s will now to try to follow the example of the 15-year-old all-stars and bring home a District championship. Palo Alto will play for the title on Saturday at four at McKelvey Park.
On Thursday, Palo Alto required only six innings to secure the victory, enforcing the ten-run rule thanks to a potent offense and some top-notch pitching.
Tyler Vaudell got the start for Palo Alto and pitched a dominant five innings, striking out seven with only one walk.
Vaudell found loads of support on offense, leading to Palo Alto's 12 runs. Nick Wells had a two-RBI single while Andrew Lim provided multiple hits for Palo Alto.
Palo Alto also got great production from its bench, led by Chris Rea who entered the game in the fourth inning and then hit an RBI single in the fifth.
