The offense continued to soar for the Palo Alto Babe Ruth 15-year old all-stars as they rolled to an easy 12-0 win over Bel-Mateo Monday night in the second round of the District 6 Tournament at the Belmont Sports Complex.

In a shortened five-inning game due to the 10-run rule, Palo struck early and often, while excellant pitching kept Bel-Mateo off the scoreboard. In the bottom of the first inning, B.J. Boyd led off with an inside-the-park the home run, setting the tone for the game. Each of Palo Alto's first seven batters reached base, as Palo Alto scored nine runs in the first inning, driving Bel-Mateo starter Antonio Avalos from the game in only 2/3 of an inning.

In the first inning, Palo Alto sent 14 batters to the plate. Boyd added an RBI single in his second time to the plate and Drake Swezey connected for a two-out two RBI single in his second plate appearance. With the game already well in hand, Palo Alto added another run in the second on an RBI single from Sam Falkenhagen. Ensuring the mercy rule, Palo Alto plated two more runners in the fourth thanks to some sloppy defense from Bel-Mateo and agressive base running by Palo Alto.

On the mound, Jordan Piha and Andrew Klingelhofer combined for the shutout, surrendering only three hits and striking out four. With the win, Palo Alto advances to the district finals on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and will face the winner of Tuesday's game between Mountain View and Bel-Mateo. Palo Alto has beaten both those teams by a combined score of 29-5.
