Alpine/West Menlo battled for 3 hours and 20 minutes while playing eight innings, but all its work went for naught in a 16-15 loss to Redwood City National in a District 52 Little League 9-10 all-star tournament game Sunday at Palo Alto's Middlefield Ballpark. Redwood City was trailing 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth before scoring nine runs to take an 11-9 lead. Alpine regained the lead in the top of the sixth, only to have Redwood City send it into extra innings at 12-12. In the top of the eight, Alpine scored three times to grab a 15-12 lead, but Redwood City rallied again with four runs to grab the hard-earned victory. Redwood City will play Palo Alto National on Monday at 7:30 p.m., with the loser being eliminated and the winner moving on to a Tuesday game against Hillsborough at 7:30 p.m.
