Date of competition: Saturday, June 20, 2009
The U.S. Men's National Volleyball Team won its second straight FIVB World League match on Friday, beating host Italy, 25-21, 30-28, 21-25, 25-21, in Florence.
Sean Rooney led the Americans with 19 points on 18 kills and an ace. He converted 55 percent of his kill attempts.
Stanford grad Kevin Hansen played in relief of starting setter Donald Suxho. The same two teams meet again on Sunday in Catania.
"We played with great intensity," U.S. coach Alan Knipe said. "On receiving skills, we played a great game. Italy had great players. It was a match we could have gone to the tie break."
