G6 – Finals vs Cabrillo Crushers (#1 seed) . The Crushers had only been challenged once in their 5 previous games. They featured a hard throwing lefty, the best pitcher Palo Alto had faced all weekend, and she was able to slow the double digit run producing PA offense, holding Palo Alto to 5 runs over 4.5 innings. Down 2-13 going into the 5th, Palo Alto did rally for 3 to close the gap, with a string of singles by Riley Fossum, Sophie Frick, and Maya Heron, and Katie Garvey, but after 6 games in two days in the Salinas sun, the Heat had cooled and couldn’t close the gap. Sophie Swezey won MVP honors for the game, voted on by the opposing coaches, for her solid performance at first base, getting a number of unassisted outs grounder, pop flys, and high foul balls.
