Following a weekend that saw the Palo Alto Oaks split for the first time, the team got back to its normal winning ways by sweeping the visiting Salinas Vikings, 11-1 and 11-0 on Sunday at Baylands Athletic Center.

In the second game, the Oaks scored early and often. Bryan Beres connected for a grand slam in the top of the first inning after Kevin Becker walked, Nathan Ford singled, and Greg Matson walked to load the bases. Beres jumped all over a curve ball and drove it over the left-center field fence. Former M-A player Skylar Brewer also homered in the first inning hitting -- a blast off the left field foul pole.

Beres was once again the recipient of base runners in the third inning when Becker and Ford both singled to lead off the inning. After a fly out, Beres launched a triple to deep left center that scored both Becker and Ford. Justin Freitas then hit a sacrifice fly ball to plate Beres. The final run for the Oaks came in the top of the fifth inning when Becker slammed a shot to deep right center and scored on an inside the park home run. Beres finished with six RBI.

The Oaks hardly needed all the runs to back up starter Matt Campbell, who cruised for four innings while giving up only one controversial infield single and not allowing another batter to reach base. If fact, the batter who did get the infield single didn't get to enjoy it long as Campbell promptly picked him off.
Campbell struck out nine and only allowed three batters to even touch the ball. That allowed coach Steve Espinoza to get some of his relievers work. He pulled Campbell to get Ricky Navarro an inning of work. Navarro struck out two of the three batters he faced.

The Oaks will return to Baylands on Saturday for another doubleheader. Palo Alto will host the Monterey Wolfpack starting at 11:30 a.m.
