Following a weekend that saw the Palo Alto Oaks split for the first time, the team got back to its normal winning ways by sweeping the visiting Salinas Vikings, 11-1 and 11-0 on Sunday at Baylands Athletic Center.

Palo Alto High grad Jason Kleinhoffer went all seven innings in the first game, allowing only three hits and one unearned run. Kleinhoffer struck out four and walked three.

Offensively, Paly grad Evan Warner was on base all four times he got up and was a major thorn in the Vikings' side. Warner stole five bases and was in scoring position every at-bat. He scored three times on two hits and twice after being hit by a pitch. Paly grad Nathan Ford was the benefactor of Warner's speed by driving in four runs with timely hits. Gunn grad Greg Matson also had a big game as he doubled twice and scored twice.

The Oaks broke the game open in the sixth inning when they scored seven times. Bryan Beres got things doing with a single and, after a strikeout, Matson doubled. Menlo-Atherton grad Tyler Finley then walked, Mountain View grad Adam Lanthier reached on a shortstop error and Menlo School grad Ryan Morris singled in Matson. After Warner reached after being hit by pitch, the Oaks got consecutive singles by Kevin Becker and Ford to plate three more. Beres then launched a sacrifice fly to complete the scoring.
