Second-seeded Wells Fargo advanced to the championship game of the Palo Alto Babe Ruth 13s City Tournament with a 4-2 victory over No. 3 Mathews-Carlsen in an elimination game Saturday at Baylands Athletic Center. Jack Cleasby pitched six shutout innings to get the victory with Mikey Diekroeger taking the mound in the seventh to close out the game.
Wells Fargo will play No. 1 seed and undefeated ATV on Wednesday for the title at Baylands starting at 5:30 p.m. Should Wells Fargo win, a challenge game will be played at approximately 8 p.m. to decide the crown.
Kyle Wallau pitched four scoreless innings for Mathews-Carlsen on Saturday but had to leave the game because he had pitched three innings on Wednesday and had reached his maximum number of innings for the week.
Wells Fargo scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth, getting some help from errors by Mathews-Carlsen.
