Despite dropping its tournament opener, No. 2 seed LPM Fire Protection Services has battled its way into the championship game of the Palo Alto Little League City Tournament, set for Saturday at Middlefield Ballpark at 2 p.m. LPM advanced with a 7-4 victory over No. 6 seed Palo Alto Venture Partners on Thursday at Hoover Park. LPM will face top-seeded Alhouse King Realty in the finals, and will have to win Saturday to force a challenge game Sunday at 1 p.m.
LPM jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when the first seven batters got on base. In the third, Shawn Stem singled in Jasper McEvoy, who had doubled, and winning pitcher Sean Weller drove home Stem to make it 5-2. Weller finished with three RBI. In the sixth, Ravi Levens singled and Roy Shadmon bounced a ground-rule double over the fence in center field. Weller then delivered a two-run single to make it a 7-2 game.
Palo Alto VP rallied in the bottom of the inning and cut it to 7-4 when Shaun Pike had an RBI double with two out before a flyout to center ended the threat and game.
